Harvest Christian Pastor Greg Laurie, recovering from COVID-19, will resume duties Oct. 18

Harvest Christian Pastor Greg Laurie, recovering from COVID-19, will resume duties Oct. 18

Pastor Greg Laurie, who is recovering from COVID-19, plans to return to the pulpit at Riverside-based megachurch Harvest Christian Fellowship in about a week.

In a video message posted to Facebook late Friday, Laurie, 67, said he has completed 10 days of quarantine and expects to deliver a sermon at the church on Oct. 18.

“I’m happy to report that I’m doing great and feel great,” he said in the message that lasted a little more than a minute.” I attribute that to so many people praying. Let’s remember to continue to pray for all of those infected with the coronavirus that they have a quick and complete recovery.”

A prerecorded sermon from Laurie titled “Is Coronavirus a Sign of the End Times?” will be delivered to Harvest Christian worshipers Sunday, Oct. 11.

Laurie has said he tested positive for COVID-19 on Oct. 2 and has experienced mild symptoms from the virus, including  fatigue, aches, pain and difficulty tasting food.

On Sept. 26, Laurie attended Prayer March 2020 that drew thousands of evangelicals to the Mall in Washington, D.C. A few hours later he went to a White House Rose Garden ceremony to announce the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Video from the prayer march shows participants, many of whom were not wearing protective masks or practicing social distancing, kneeling in small prayer groups and waving flags.

In a separate video, Laurie is shown offering a prayer during the march while standing next to the well-known Rev. Franklin Graham. Neither man was wearing a face covering.

Many other faith leaders who attended the Rose Garden event have said they have since tested negative for the virus, but not all are adhering to Centers for Disease Control guidelines, which recommend quarantining for 14 days after spending more than 15 minutes within 6 feet of someone who tests positive for COVID-19, according to Religion News Service.

Photos from the crowded Rose Garden ceremony show Laurie, sans face covering, seated in front of former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who also wasn’t wearing a mask. Christie, like Laurie, was later diagnosed with COVID-19.

Harvest Christian officials did not respond Friday to a request for comment regarding Laurie’s plans to resume his duties.
