Man found fatally injured in residential area of Moreno Valley, suspect arrested

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of killing a man in a residential neighborhood in Moreno Valley, Saturday afternoon, May 1, authorities said.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called to the 24800 block of Heil Drive about 4:05 p.m. on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, Sgt. Richard Carroll said.

Deputies arrived to find an unconscious man with traumatic injuries. He was taken to a hospital, but he died, Carroll said.

Police did not disclose further information on the type of injuries, the type of weapon or if it had been found.

Investigators identified Angel Mendoza as the suspect. He was taken into custody on suspicion of murder just before 1:50 p.m. Sunday after police found him on Hemlock Avenue, according to jail records.

He was being held on no bail.

A motive for the slaying was not yet known. The victim was not identified pending notification of his relatives.
