Motorcyclist killed in collision with tree in Riverside

RIVERSIDE — A motorcyclist died Sunday in Riverside when he lost control and struck rose bushes and a palm tree, police said.

The man was was westbound on Victoria Avenue near John Street about 4:30 p.m. when he entered the dirt center divider and then hit the bushes and tree, police said.

He died at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

No one else was injured in the solo-vehicle crash, which temporarily shut down Victoria from John to McAllister streets, said Riverside Police Officer Ryan Railsback.

Police said in a statement the rider who died was 35 and a resident of Riverside. He was riding a black 2017 Harley-Davidson. Alcohol was believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash, the statement said.
