Temecula welcomes 2022 with return of Grape Drop celebration

Temecula rang in 2022 Friday night, Dec. 31, with the return of its New Year’s Eve Grape Drop, a celebration at the Civic Center quad in Old Town Temecula.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, last year’s event was virtual.

This year, the festivities were emceed by 101.3 FM radio personality Mama Mia and included live music and food. Families enjoyed a giant slide, inflatable maze and hat-making. People ice skated at the nearby Town Square Park rink. A cluster of grapes — created to signify nearby Temecula Valley Wine Country — was again to be dropped to the crowd’s delight.

The city staged two countdowns to the new year — one at 9 p.m. to mark 2022’s arrival on the East Coast and one at midnight.
