Four years after his last NHL game and one year after his son, William Nylander, was a first-round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs, former center Michael Nylander is selling his $ 3.15 million estate in Old Greenwich, CT.
Whether Michael Nylander is eventually headed to Toronto to cheer on his son or seeking to settle in his native Sweden, where he currently plays professionally, the Colonial treasure he’s leaving behind is one of a kind—especially for Old Greenwich house hunters seeking space and seclusion.
The five-bedroom home is a five-minute walk to the beach or the town center. Despite its proximity to local haunts, the 3,630-square-foot home offers complete privacy. The home is set back from the road, and the half-acre lot is “a lot of land in Old Greenwich,” says listing agent Julie Church.
“It’s a classic, unique older home,” Church says. Built in 1900, the home was renovated in 2007. The interior was updated without sacrificing the home’s stately charm. A makeover highlight? Well, the country-style kitchen got a total redo, which added pristine white cabinetry, granite countertops, and a subway tile backsplash.
Church loves the home’s floor plan, which offers sizable bedrooms, a “huge” family room, and easy transitions between living and dining spaces. Hardwood floors throughout, white woodwork, and built-ins aplenty make the space feel cohesive and homey—and the home’s large windows bring in a ton of light, especially on the upper floors.
The front porch is large enough for entertaining (or just relaxing and surveying your territory). You could also bring guests around to the fenced backyard’s blue stone terrace, where you can throw wood into the outdoor fireplace and enjoy a chilly Connecticut evening under the stars.
The biggest selling point? The home’s undeniable curb appeal. “It has a beautiful approach, with a classic white-picket fence,” Church says.
Nylander suited up for seven NHL squads over the course of his 15-year career, which began in 1992 with the Hartford Whalers. The center scored 209 goals and racked up 470 assists in the NHL. He had his most prolific seasons with the New York Rangers in 2005–2006 and 2006–2007.
