December home prices: Up in 62 of 83 O.C. ZIP codes

The lowest median price in an Orange County ZIP code was in Santa Ana (92701) at $ 290,000, according to CoreLogic. H. LORREN AU JR. , THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

The median price of an Orange County home – or the price at the midpoint of all sales – was $ 630,000 in December, according to data released Tuesday by Irvine-based home-data firm CoreLogic.

That’s up 8.2 percent from December 2014, the highest annual home-price gain in more than a year.

I dug out my trusty spreadsheet to track how ZIP codes fared across the county:

• Prices were up in 62 of 83 Orange County ZIP codes compared to the previous year.

• Sales rose in 48 of 83 Orange County ZIPs compared to the year-ago period.

• In the 27 least expensive ZIPs – median sales price at $ 550,000 and below – total sales were up 6.2 percent compared to a year ago.

• In the 27 priciest ZIPs – median sales price beginning at $ 744,000 – sales were up 14.2 percent compared to a year ago.

• By the way, in the 7 Orange County ZIP codes with median selling prices above $ 1 million, sales totaled 220 homes, up 1.9 percent compared to a year ago.

• The most expensive ZIP code was Newport Beach 92662 with a median selling price of $ 5.4 million. Next was Newport Coast 92657 at $ 3.79 million.

• Cheapest was Santa Ana 92701 with a $ 290,000 median price; Laguna Woods 92637 followed with a $ 296,000 median.
