Pro surfer Kalani Robb drops in on YouTube pitch for luxe St. Regis homes

He’s not on a surfboard here. But he does hit the links and throw back a couple of beers against an idyllic backdrop: A new home on a golf course selling for $ 5 million and change.

Yep, that’s pro surfer Kalani Robb popping up in a couple of YouTube videos for a new community adjacent to the St. Regis Monarch Beach resort in Dana Point.

Tim Smith, a real estate agent at Coldwell Banker Previews International, creates videos to sell many of the multi-million dollar homes he lists, and you never know who in Orange County’s sports or pop culture scene you’ll spot next.

In addition to Robb, the video for The Grand Monarch community includes Lydia McLaughlin, ex-cast member of “The Real Housewives of Orange County.”

But you’d need to know who these folks are. They aren’t named.

Smith uploads his videos – which include plenty of slow-mo shots of homes’ interiors – on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and elsewhere.

“We reached out to all of these people as part of a social media strategy – they are influencers in the digital space and are connected to the people we hope will buy this property,” said Jade Schuck, Smith’s marketing director.

“Kalani Robb was in town before leaving on an international surf trip and we asked if he’d be interested in participating in the film to play golf and spend a day in the life of the “bachelor pad” residence – he said yes.”

So far, Smith and his sales partner Amy Calvert have listed three of the 37 contemporary homes planned at Grand Monarch. Two-thirds of the homes in the community, by William Lyon Signature Homes, are getting finishing touches, and the first occupants will begin moving in by mid-December. All residences will be done by the end of 2016.

The new homeowners will have access to the St. Regis’ amenities. That includes the resort’s “surf butler.”
