San Clemente housing consultant sells firm

San Clemente housing economist Mark Boud sold his firm to a division of Washington-based Hanley Wood, but will continue to run the business out of Orange County, Boud and Hanley Wood announced Wednesday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

But Boud will remain at the helm of Real Estate Economics as a senior vice president of Metrostudy, the housing research division that acquired his business.

“Real Estate Economics wants to apply our methodology and information tools on a national scale, and Metrostudy not only provides that platform, but they also share a similar mindset in terms of data quality and customer support,” Boud said in an email to the Register.

The company, founded in 1995 in Irvine, provides an online database and research tools to real estate investors, allowing them to analyze different markets.

It also consults on all phases of residential, resort and land development, from buying land to selling finished lots and homes. Clients include the Irvine Co. and major homebuilders.

The company moved from Irvine to San Clemente five months ago.

Boud said Real Estate Economics will do similar work as before for existing clients, but with expanded tools and covering a wider geography.

“Metrostudy is interested in applying our models and methodology nationwide, which really excites us,” Boud said. “We are extremely complimentary in terms of our product offering and consulting practice.”

Hanley Wood CEO Peter Goldstone said in a press release that Real Estate Economics “has an amazing lineup of forecasting and analytics products to support builders, developers, and financial institutions that complement what we currently offer through Metrostudy.”

Metrostudy provides research and consulting services to developers, lenders, suppliers, retailers and utilities, the press release said.

Hanley Wood, headquartered in Washington, D.C., is an information, media, event and strategic marketing services company. Clients include the residential, commercial design and construction industries.
